Life as a creative requires consistent inspiration. Sometimes we can find that inspiration within, but other times it is necessary to look outside of ourselves. These 5 photographers who inspire offer unique viewpoints and evocative imagery- a combination that never fails to ignite my own creativity.
Photographers Who Inspire | Nisian Hughes
Starting out with ballet. Mr. Hughes’ work encompasses ballet as well as sports and other genres. He uses directional light in a magnificent way, allowing his imagery to show the sculpted muscles of the athletes. The photographs are intimate, yet bold and communicate the unique strength of each subject.
Photographers Who Inspire | Anastasia Petukhova
Sticking with the ballet theme, I ran across Ms. Petukhova’s work recently. She photographs on location and does a masterful job of working with the light that she has available, while also capturing dancers in a way that accentuates the utmost of their lines and shapes.
Browsing through the other genres that she shoots I find an equally strong focus on light, line and shape. I feel welcomed into an intimate observation of the world through Ms. Petukhova’s imagery. She shoots as an observer; one who quietly tells stories without asking for subjects to alter their interaction with the world. I identify with this type of photography and can happily get lost browsing her imagery.
Photographers Who Inspire | Sarah Wilkerson
Light, shadow, color and composition pour forth from Ms. Wilkerson’s imagery. She has a masterful eye for finding magic within moments and creates photographs that reach right through to the emotion of the subject, inviting the viewer to feel involved in the scene, while still leaving room for personal interpretation.
Photographers Who Inspire | Kelle Sauer
Romantic, dream-like, feminine, ethereal. These are all words that come to mind while viewing Ms. Sauer’s work. Her photographs are contemplative, introspective and sensitive. Though it is delicate, it is decidedly not weak. Ms. Sauer explores the strength in the quiet, and the results are beautiful.
Photographers Who Inspire | Summer Murdock
Ms. Murdock is continuously pushing her own work forward. Her use of light is superb, creative focus and captured movement often give the viewer an unexpected experience, while inclusion of artful drone work provides perspectives that are completely unique and new.
