Over the past year, I can count the number of times I’ve taken my 24-70 off of my camera on one hand. The lens is simply the most versatile and easiest option for daily shooting and telling a story. However, it isn’t the best option for inspiring creativity or forcing a change in perspective. After taking an initial shot, a quick twist of the barrel allows me to reframe from where I’m standing to achieve a different look for a second photo. Honestly, it’s easy- for me- to become lazy with a zoom. Zoom lenses are a great tool, but when I want to feel connected to the subject that I’m photographing and really lose myself to the process a prime lens makes all the difference. No prime that I have more quickly forces that shift than my macro.
The other day I pulled the 24-70 off and went texture hunting with my macro.
