When I travel I either photograph my family, relatively unposed, as we explore a destination or take pictures of scenes that I come across. For the sessions on travel photography that I taught at Clickaway, I was struggling with how to use a model in a way that was relatively authentic to my normal approach to shooting away from home. A few weeks before the conference a discussion about my model dilemma with my friend Courtney ended in her offering to model for me. After 11 years of friendship, we’re almost family, so I snapped up her offer with little hesitation ;)
Travel Photography is all about telling the story of the place, the people and the time, for me. Light, line, shape, color and framing are some of the most important considerations to creating images that feel unique and personal. I had a wonderful time sharing and shooting with all of the participants in the two sessions of my Boutique travel class (even though we got more than a little wet on the second day!)
Thank you to everyone who participated. An email will be coming your way within the next few days!

It was such a great class Megan! Thank you so much for all the tips. I will share some of my images on the Dropbox folder although I am kind of embarrassed to do it…not sure how good they are. I also learned from talking to Courtney that you are both former Spokanites!! I love this city. If you are ever in Spokane again look me up :-)
Thank you, Kathy! I loved Spokane :) D. Lish’s Hamburgers (mostly their fries, really), Greenbluff in the fall and Maggie’s on South Hill… good memories!
