First up- registration is currently open for the June 19th start date of my online workshop, Mastering Natural Light Indoors. If you’re ready to see and use the light that you find indoors (almost all the concepts we discuss translate to outdoor photography, as well) then join us for four weeks of interactive learning! And now, today’s pictures. 3 years ago, I decided to begin a tradition of shooting a day in the life, once per year, in April. Why April? Because that was the month in which I shot the first DITL, and I want to create an annual record of life- as it looks in the moment- so April it is. I tote my camera around all day and shoot to record what things looked like and how the day felt. If you’d like to see previous years’ DITL posts you can click on the years for 2014, 2015 and 2016 (Actually, I lied about 2016. It appears that session is still sitting quietly in its folder in Lightroom. Yikes. Don’t tell anyone.)

Oh, looking through the years (I wanna see 2016!!) makes me feel like I’m watching your boys grow up! I was this close to tearing up! they’re so BIG!! ♥ I loved seeing how your photography improved and isolated the subject to tell the story. You are truly amazing! I’ve wanted to do a day-in-the-life for a while now. this might be the kick in the pants I’ve needed!
Thank you, Lottie. Such sweet words! I hope that you do shoot a DITL… it isn’t my favorite project while shooting, but I love the results.
Loved to see your DITL, so many great perspectives and you so often in the frame. Wonderful. And man, your boys have grown!! Especially your little one – not so little anymore ;-).
I shot my first DITL last June, and plan on shooting one every year in June also. Actually, I think I’ll do it this weekend. It was by far my favorite project of the year – so much fun, and such a wonderful record of life at a certain time. Hope you continue to do them, and thanks for the reminder that I need to get in gear ;-).
Awesome, Heidi! Sending you motivating vibes to get that DITL shot this weekend ;)
