August was a rough month for self portraits. The end of summer seems to drain me of creative energy. Still, 2 portrait sessions are better than 0.
{Morning Routine} Clearly, I was trying to squeak in under the wire for this prompt. I do like to fit in a bit of yoga and stretching to every morning that can hold it. For this image, I wanted clean, fresh light to support the everyday feeling of the image. I set my camera on the ground, near to a wall on camera left, to add some framing and depth to the image.
{Dramatic Light} Here is a prompt in my wheelhouse! I adore dramatic light. Often, the smaller the light source, the better. Smaller light sources (comparative to subject size) provide a dramatic play of light and shadow across the surfaces of a subject and yield such fantastic depth and dimension. I was looking for a somber, though somewhat hazy mood for these images, so I played with focus/defocus and tight/unusual framing.
