All indoor self portraits for October. Even though it was still pretty summer-like for the majority of the month, the beginning of fall always finds me retreating indoors. Maybe I’m looking forward to the holidays? Speaking of, I have started listening to Christmas music almost every day now that Halloween is done. 2 months per year of Christmas music seems totally reasonable.
{Childhood Memories} I don’t remember learning to tie my shoes. Do you? Maybe he will, but if not, we’ll have a picture ;) It was too late in the evening for natural light when I remembered it was self portrait day, so I had the 4 year old hold up my light wand from Yongnuo to give us some directional light. If you have the choice, I’d recommend a sturdier light stand.
{No Faces} I love capturing personality without faces. I chose this scene for the framing devices and leading lines and planes. Without faces, the image needed to include plenty of visual interest in order to inspire the viewer to explore the frame.
{Pets} Images with cute dogs are almost always winners. He’s a nut, and difficult to photograph… even when the breeder was sending us pictures of him from 0-8 weeks of age he’d make his most un-cute face and look like he was trying to exit the scene. So, for this image, I decided to work with one of his strongest natural interests (doorbell/visitors) to elicit some unforced emotion/cuteness.
{Bad Habits} This image is illustrating my bad habit of touching my face and hair too much. I didn’t want tack sharpness for this frame, so I used a relatively wide ap on my macro lens. I also added a soft pink fill layer in Photoshop to further soften the mood. I’d like to acknowledge my bad habits without beating myself up about them… I’m working on it.
