This year we stayed close to home for Spring Break. My husband wasn’t able to take time off, so I tasked myself to fill our week with short daily outings that would convince the boys that they didn’t need to be on electronics all day long ;) One day we took a quick drive over to River Farm, located on the banks of the Potomac in Alexandria. It is a property that was once owned by George Washington and farmed by his family members. The house and land are now owned by the American Horticultural Society. The AHS does a beautiful job of maintaining the property and visitors are welcome to explore for free (donations towards maintenance are welcome) year round Monday through Friday from 9-5.
If you’re looking for a peaceful, outdoor outing (with or without children) in the greater DC area, I would recommend River Farm without hesitation.
